Fuel subsidy for vehicles providing public transit services in Addis Ababa.

The Addis Ababa Municipal Transportation Authority has announced that it will provide fuel subsidies for public transportation vehicles in order to provide better transportation services at affordable prices.

In addition to the subsidy system that will be introduced from July 1, 2014, by installing GPS in the vehicle, it will be possible to streamline the transfer of technology by connecting power lines.

The Addis Ababa Municipal Department of Transportation discussed with stakeholders a draft on fuel price adjustments and targeted implementation of subsidies.

Fuel subsidies apply to small and medium-sized public transit vehicles based on low-income rates and outreach services.

This includes public and private buses, both code 1 and code 3 minibuses (registered in Addis Ababa) that provide public transportation between cities and towns.

Public sector vehicles, private and non-governmental organizations, and private schools are not eligible for this eligible subsidy, according to the agency.

His Elazar Yirdaw, Head of Public Transport Licensing and Distribution Operators of the Department of Transportation, said the draft policy would revive the current fuel price subsidies and revert to the previous Stabilization Fund management system. said it can.

Until April 30, 2014, vehicles registered under the subsidy program must be GPS registered. The director said registration of vehicles in the database will take place until May 30, 2014.

He asked the public to submit all public transport information to the Bureau within 10 days.
