The continuous clashes between Sidama region and Oromia region's eastern Guji zone and western RC zone have resulted in the loss of many lives and the destruction of property.

According to the local residents who spoke to Addis Style, "Despite reconciliation and discussion between the parties involved in the conflicts that have been going on for the last five years, no lasting solution could be found."

 "If there is no permanent solution to the issues that are being raised by the community, there will be conflicts on the borders of the two regions."

According to a community member who moved from West Guji zone of Oromia region 20 years ago and now resides in Qare district of Sidama region and did not want to be named, "Since 2011, the questions that have arisen on the borders of the two regions have never happened for the past thirty years, but the conflict that started with the claim of land ownership" It is taking root.

In addition to "land claims" on the two bordering areas, the idea that "we want to be separated in Sidama or Oromia West Gujina RC zones beyond regional boundaries and identity issues" has been the reason for the conflicts that arise every season.

"In the area where I live, there are at least two conflicts in one year," our informant said, armed militants from West Guji zone, apart from stealing cattle, open fire and attack the farmers.

According to the residents of the area who spent time with Addis Atif, "it has contributed to the current problems due to the conflicts caused by being in the Sidama region." "We want the communities living in the bordering areas of Sidama region to be under the Oromia region," he said.

Arorsa resident Ato Ajagu Adege, who stated that the governments of both regions have held discussions on the questions that are the cause of frequent conflicts, said, "The leaders have not been able to find a permanent solution beyond providing a temporary solution in their discussions."

According to Mr. Ajgu, "the inability of the leaders who manage the Sidama region and its zones to provide a lasting solution other than alleviating the problems at the time" is the reason for the ongoing conflicts.

On February 5, 2015, around the West Guji and West RC zones of the Oromia region and the bordering areas of the Sidama region. It will be remembered that many people lost their lives when there was a lot of damage to property after more than six repeated clashes, including the one that happened.
